Boomer Me Up, Scottie

20 Feb

I just got back from beautiful Utah where I gave a number of lectures at the 5th American-Brazilian Aesthetic Meeting. I learned that Baby Boomers rock.  Well, of course I knew that, but according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) study out today, the number of people lifting, injecting and lasering their faces is growing.

ASPS says that last year face lifts were up six percent, eyelid lifts up four percent and cheek implants up six percent. Injectibles were up too, as boomers are finding a fast and easy way to look younger without surgery.

Hair Today. Gone Tomorrow.

5 Feb

homepagemanLosing hair can be traumatic for men and women.  In most cases, hair loss can be traced to heredity, certain medications and some illnesses.  Men generally fair better than women in the hair loss department because balding is acceptable and even trendy.   That said, a lot of people just want to have their hair back, especially women.

For years, wigs, hairpieces (usually quite noticeable) and lotions were the temporary cure for losing lots of hair.  A surgical option surfaced as well which inserted hair plugs into the scalp.  While this may work for some folks, some former treatments required surgery, stitches and sometimes resulted in scarring.  Here at Marina Plastic Surgery, we have a high-tech alternative transplantation method called NeoGraft.  There are many advantages, including:

  • NeoGraft implants natural hair from your own head: NeoGraft is a follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique that harvests individual follicles from the back of your head. Hairs in this area are genetically coded to stay alive and growing in their follicles. So it’s like replacing the hairs you’re losing with better, stronger versions of themselves.
  • It requires no incisions, stitches or linear scars: Like other FUE methods, NeoGraft allows me to restore your hair one follicle at a time. Because I don’t use a scalpel at all, you won’t get that noticeable linear scar often left after “strip” transplants. Bleeding is minimal to nonexistent, and the tiny areas where the hair is harvested for the procedure will heal to a point that they are virtually unnoticeable.
  • It’s faster and more effective: This automated transplant system allows me to perform transplants quickly, efficiently and uniformly. You spend less time here, which means less cost for you. Because NeoGraft harvests your follicles with pneumatic pressure (suction), I don’t have to touch them with a forceps. This so-called “no touch” method translates to healthier, undamaged follicles.

I look forward to answering any further questions you might have about NeoGraft, as well as hair transplants in general.
